This coming summer, the Hunter will present a retrospective of Saya Woolfalk’s two decades of work using garment-based sculptures, video, paintings, works on paper and performances to tell the story of the “Emphatics” a fictional race of women who reflect the artist’s African American, European American, and Japanese heritage, while also alluding to science fiction, feminist theory, mythology, anthropology, archaeology, Eastern religions, craft, and fashion.
