Nature Prints

MATERIALS

  • Paint
  • Paper
  • Paintbrush
  • Leaf

INSTRUCTIONS

Do you love all things nature? You are not alone. The artist Charles E. Burchfield loved nature and often looked there for artistic inspiration. He even painted outside, surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Paintings like Gateway to September from the Hunter Museum’s collection show some of the plants and creatures that the artist cared for so much. Like Burchfield, you can create your own nature-inspired artwork using a few simple materials and your own little piece of nature.

  1. Using a paintbrush, cover your chosen leaf with paint.
  2. Lay your leaf paint-side down on a sheet of paper.
  3. Pressing firmly, and keeping the leaf as still as possible, rub your hands over the back of the leaf.
  4. Remove the leaf and enjoy your nature print! You can do this with as many paint colors and leaves as you like.
