Staff Pick: Lesley Dill

I have followed Lesley Dill’s work for nearly 25 years and was lucky enough to organize a traveling exhibition of her work for the Hunter in 2008. Rise by Lesley Dill was one of the highlights of that exhibition, and then Lesley decided its permanent home should be with us. The piece is nearly 50 feet across and completely draws you in. Embroidered banners flow up from a red, meditative figure. Lesley sees this as our hopes, prayers and thoughts coming out of us and going out in the world. I’ve always identified with her interpretation, especially now, as we collectively hope for a brighter future.
