Photo weaving is a method of making art by combining two or more photographs together. Instead of weaving yarns to create textiles, some artists weave multiple photographs to create dynamic and surreal artworks. These artworks illustrate the endless potential of art-making. There is always a way for artists to adapt or expand a technique to create something new.  Use the instructions below to create your own woven photograph.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Using a ruler and pencil, draw several vertical lines down one of the photographs. These lines should be ½ inch apart.
2. Then cut along these lines. You should get equally sized strips.
3.  Carefully lay out these stripes in order on the sheet of paper.
4. Tape the top of the strips to the paper. This will stop them from moving when you start weaving.
5. Using your ruler and pencil, draw several horizontal lines across the other photograph. These lines should also be ½ inch apart.
6. Cut along these lines.
7. Take one of the strips and weave it through the stripes you taped to the paper by going over and under.
8. Take another strip and weave it in the opposite pattern by going under and over
9. Repeat with the remaining strips.
10. Once you are finished, tape the bottom of your weaving to keep it from unraveling.
