The Hunter Museum of American Art is fully accessible to visitors with limited
mobility. Parking has been reserved for our handicapped visitors in our parking
lot near the East wing. All galleries are wheelchair accessible with an
elevator allowing access between floors. Restrooms are located on the entry
floor in the East and West wings.

Located on the banks of the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, the Hunter Museum
of American Art is easily accessible from I-24:
From Atlanta: drive I-75 North to I-24 West, then follow directions
below. From Knoxville: drive I-75 South to I-24 West, then follow directions
below. From Nashville: I-24 East, then follow directions below. From Birmingham: follow I-59 to I-24 East, then follow directions below. From Huntsville: follow Hwy 72 to I-24 East, then follow directions
below.

Take exit 1C right on 4th Street
Turn Left on High Street and follow High Street straight into the Museum’s
parking lot
Backpacks, backpack-style purses, baby back carriers, umbrellas and other bulky
items must be checked in the coat room located at Visitors’ Services.
Eliminating items carried on one’s back decreases the possibility of backing
into something.
Food and drink are not allowed in the galleries. Smoking is prohibited in the
museum. Gum must be disposed of appropriately.
The use of cell phones is prohibited in the galleries.
Please do not touch any work of art. The slightest touch to the surface can
create permanent damage. No climbing is allowed on outdoor sculptures.
Photography is not permitted in the galleries. Photography of the outdoor
sculpture is allowed.
Visitors and students are permitted to sketch in the galleries after reviewing
and signing the Museum’s Permission to Sketch policy which can be obtained at
Visitors’ Services. Pens, markers or paint are prohibited in the galleries.
Please do not use walls or glass cases to lean against or write on.
SunTrust FREE First Sundays
Admission to the Hunter Museum is free on the first
Sunday of every month. (Made possible by the generous support of SunTrust.)
With an amazing assortment of merchandise for gift giving, home décor, or to
spice up one’s fashion profile, no visit to the museum is complete without a
visit to the Museum Store. Members always receive a 10% discount.
All tours must be booked at least 21 days in advance for guided tours. A
one-week advance notice is required for self-guided tours. Reservations are
made on a first-come, first-served basis depending on availability and gallery
space.
Guided tours for K-12 school groups are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and
Friday mornings. Public and adult guided tours are available on all weekday
afternoons. Complimentary tours are also available on Saturdays and Sundays at
2:00pm with paid admission. See Visitor Services for more details.
