Home School

Join the Hunter Museum for thematic Home School Workshops designed specifically for home school learners and their families. Six workshops are offered throughout the school year.

Home school Workshop Series

The Hunter Museum presents its Home school Workshop series, specifically designed for home school learners. This series of four workshops provides unique topical museum experiences. Each session includes the following:

  • Museum tour
  • Studio art experience
  • Take-home packet with resources to extend your families museum experience

Workshops are limited to 30 participants between the ages of 5 to 13 years old. Register today to reserve your space!

Studio Glass – It’s not just for windows!

Friday, September 24, 10-12 p.m.
$10 members, $12 non-members

Join the Hunter Museum for this Home School Workshop that explores a uniquely American craft – studio glass. Participants will visit the temporary glass exhibitions Stephen Rolfe Powell and Transformation 6 and discover the potential of color and transparency in a hands-on art activity. Artist as Observer

Friday, November 12, 10-12 p.m.
$10 members, $12 non-members

Artists are always observing, recording, organizing and interpreting the world around them. They then share these observation and interpretation with the world. See through the eyes of an artist in this Home School Workshop and turn your observations into a work of art. Register for this workshop.

Loïs Mailou Jones – Art in Vibrant Color

Friday, February 25, 10-12 p.m.
$10 members, $12 non-members

Join us for a tour and art activity on the life and work of artist Lois Mailou Jones in the special exhibition, Lois Mailou Jones: A Life in Vibrant Color. Included in the exhibition are drawings, paintings and colorful textiles that explore not only the artist’s life but the lives and struggles of other African Americans in the early 20th century.

Artist as Experimenter

Friday, March 25, 10-12 p.m.
$10 members, $12 non-members

Artists are like inventors, constantly pushing the boundaries of art and developing new styles and techniques in the process. Join us for this 2 hour workshop through which your child will discover artists’ inventions and experiment with new techniques of their own.

Artist as Storyteller

Friday, April 8, 10-12 p.m.
$10 members, $12 non-members

Pictures are really worth a thousand words. Stories of our history, stories about individuals, stories of fiction and fantasy find their way onto the artist canvas. Discover the diversity of stories playing out in the Hunter’s galleries in this Home School Workshop. Create a work of art that tells a story of your own.
