Adults

Join the Hunter for one of our famous Hunter Happens, a studio art class or the very popular Sublime in Art. Each program offers a unique way to engage with art and American culture.

Hunter Happens

The Hunter Happens every Thursday night. Films, lectures, cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, musical performances and more - join us every Thursday night for a new way to experience the Hunter Museum.

Sublime In ART

Chattanooga’s rich natural resources and the Hunter’s collection pair again this year for a continuation of the successful Sublime in Art series, a partnership between the Hunter and Outdoor Chattanooga. From urban hikes to woodland mountains, we’ll hike the lengths of Chattanooga to better understand the work of artists in our collection. Then on some excursions, we’ll head for the river as is the case with our kayak excursion in July. And sometimes, we’ll travel by bicycle as we’ll be doing with a bicycle scavenger hunt in October.

We hold four programs each year and they are designed for adults with basic physical activity experience who want to find ways to join Chattanooga’s beautiful scenery with the art here at the Hunter. All programs are free and include necessary equipment but they do all require advanced registration. Call 752-2053 for more information or to register.

Designing Innovation

Designing Innovation is a program that the Hunter Museum of American Art has created to meet the needs of the business community. This client-specific tailored program allows the Hunter to utilize the approach often used in education programs developed for school groups to instead partner with local for-profit and not-for-profit organizations that seek skill development in a variety of areas critical to innovative business competitiveness today. Artful Lunch

Why not take a break and slow down for lunch and a chance to explore our American society...artfully. Bring a group of colleagues from work on three days of your choosing for an Artful Lunch at the Hunter Museum of American Art. This is a very casual opportunity to just spend a little time in the galleries, reflect on works of art, explore your own ideas about these issues, and get to know your co-workers and their thoughts on this as well. Then, after about 15-20 minutes in the galleries each day, you'll have a chance to enjoy lunch in the Hunter cafe or to go for lunch on your own at your favorite downtown restaurant (or brown bag it if you'd like)

On these dates, you'll have an opportunity to explore the galleries with a Hunter curator and to learn more about how current events can be seen in paintings created years ago. You and your group can choose a theme, perhaps the American economy, American identity, interpersonal communication or anything else of your choosing. Then, on your selected dates, we'll explore a series of paintings that express the way Americans have expressed this issue throughout time and then we will discuss what these images teach us in today.

To learn more or to sign up, contact Adera Causey at (423) 752-2053.
