Analysis

This painting by contemporary realist painter Jack Beal is a large scale continuation of the viewer's space. Beal himself is the teacher in the work, leaning over the woman's painting. There is a long tradition of self portraits of artists in their studios throughout art history and this piece references several of these as well as Beal's personal experiences as an artist.

To learn more about the piece, visit the Creative Discovery Museum in downtown Chattanooga to see a reproduction and further child-focused information.
