Analysis

John Frederick Kensett studied and traveled with many other landscape artists of the day, including Asher B. Durand whose work can be seen here. Kensett preferred quiet, contemplative scenes over grandiose vistas created by some of his contemporaries. This can be seen in this tranquil scene of nature close up in Conway, an area in central New Hampshire, near the White Mountains.
