Analysis

Leon Golub's Head is part of a series that reflects mankind tormented by repression. He called these "monster heads" and directly linked some to the conflict in Vietnam and other violent events. He also drew inspiration from ancient Greek sculptures. To create the raw canvas surface, Golub layered the paint with the brush and then scraped it off with a meat cleaver.
