East Wing: Abstract Expressionism (Gallery 17)
Jack Tworkov's late work, like this one painted four years before his death, reflects a measured approach to abstraction. This Polish-born New York-trained artist began his career with a style more like the Abstract Expressionists with their agitated lines. Later in his career, he began to create more subdued linear works that juxtapose controlled geometric shapes as seen here.
