Themes of Identity Selections from the Hunter Museum Collection

Dec 6th (2009) - Jun 6th, 2010

What informs and defines identity? One's family? Country? Race? Religion? And what, particularly, defines American identity?

Themes of Identity: Selections from the Hunter Museum Collection examines many concepts of identity - such as gender, race, class and nationalism- through the eyes of artists represented in the Museum's permanent collection.  The Hunter staff hopes this exhibition offers a fresh look at some objects in the collection by looking at them in a different way and by pairing them with other pieces to create surprising juxtapositions.
